“It’s appalling”, “Abysmal ugliness”, “Completely absurd”: Dany Boon cornered by critics for his new film with Kad Merad!

Dany Boon multiplies the projects… A few days after having ensured the promotion of the big American production “Murder Mystery” (Netflix) on the occasion of the release of the second part of the film in which he gives the reply to Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, the 56-year-old actor has returned to television sets… But this time to defend his own film: “Life for Real”.

A feature film that he signs and in which he also appears alongside his faithful sidekick Kad Merad. Indeed, 15 years after the box of “Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis” the duo is reforming… To form a trio, since the two men also share the bill with Charlotte Gainsbourg.

The pitch of the film? Tridan Lagache (played by Dany Boon), a 50-year-old born in a “med club” in Mexico where his parents met and where he has always lived, decides to leave everything to try to find his childhood sweetheart in Paris.

A comedy that has already been released in theaters since April 19… But unfortunately for the director, according to information from BFM-TV, the latter would have made its worst start in 17 years. And for good reason, five days after its release, “Life for real” only has 351,479 admissions.

harsh criticism

A false start which comes accompanied by returns for the less categorical on the part of film critics. “The film should have been called Club Merde, it’s so bad. It’s appalling. […] To begin with, the story where the guy is called Tridan because he was born in Club Med, it’s completely absurd. And then poor Charlotte Gainsbourg who lands in there, and is forced to say stupid things. She sees that it’s dramatic and she plays like those girls in the scripted reality show, it sounds fake”wrote Éric Neuhoff, journalist at the Figaro.

Same story for film critic Michel Ciment who did not mince his words either: “The entire first part is abysmal in ugliness and vulgarity. The nunuche side of Dany Boon’s character makes this whole story uninteresting. Then comes Charlotte Gainsbourg and there, I must say that it justifies the title Life for real. She brings a fantasy, a real game of seduction. But why are today’s popular French comedies so ugly to watch? Why are there so few scenes? In the 1960s, there was Michel Deville, de Broca, Rappeneau, it was brilliant. Not to mention the great American comedies that were beautifully filmed by Cukor, Wilder. Why must all these films be so ugly these days? There are very few good comedy writers today.he wrote.

Finally, the journalist Release Camille Nevers was not more lenient: “Real life is disappointing, that’s the moral of the film, but Life for real is also a disappointing film”she writes in particular.

So many criticisms which obviously do not prevent you from going to your nearest cinema to form your own opinion. Indeed, it is important to emphasize that art is subjective and that what displeases some may very well amaze others!
