“You know who the biggest super profiteer is, dare I say it’s the state”, says Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux, president of Medef, guest Monday, August 29 on France Inter. Asked about the need or not to introduce a tax on super-profits, he assures that “it’s absurd”because the super-profits of firms are “good news for these companies, for the employees but also for the French, for the State and for the debt”.

“Tax receipts for the first half of 2022 increased by 27 billion euros thanks to the super-profits of companies”says Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux. “When companies make super losses, what do we do? We give them the money back?”he asks himself to justify the fact that the tax rate on profits should not be varied.

“It does not make sense”adds the president of Medef.“The strength of French taxation, for seven years, has been to be stable and to have a clear signal of attractiveness, today we have an economic situation in France which is less bad than elsewhere, don’t raise taxes”pleads Geoffroy Roux de Bézieux.
Asked about franceinfo, Cécile Duflot, the director general of Oxfam France, said to herself “very shocked” remarks by the president of Medef. “It’s very swollen”she reacted. The state was there during the pandemic. We have almost nationalized wages with partial unemployment precisely to avoid layoffs, to support companies that have benefited from billions of euros in public aid.
“Everyone is going to have to make an effort.”

“If we want it to work, we can clearly see that it is not by encouraging and trying to tell companies ‘it would be nice to’. Because we can clearly see the response made by the boss of companies, who is today full of contempt and injustice towards all taxpayers who have helped businesses”added Cécile Duflot.
