“It’s a threat that we have fully in mind and it is indeed one of the highest hypotheses that are being considered”said Friday May 31 on franceinfo Didier Rendu, the deputy secretary general of the Union of Internal Security Executives CFDT, while the Ministry of the Interior announced that an attempted attack on the football events in Saint-Etienne planned during the Olympic Games was foiled.
“It is because we are fully mobilized and precisely because we are considering these hypotheses that we are prepared to prevent them”explains the union representative. “The means are put absolutely everywhere”and not just in Île-de-France or Paris, he assures.
Life in the territories will continue and that was precisely the difficulty in setting up the system, to be able to distribute in a balanced manner the forces we need to secure the Olympic Games and also to allow the territories to continue their lives.

The foiled attempt to commit the act was, according to him, a “low cost form of jihadism”. It concerns a young Chechen, aged 18, who planned to attack supporters around the Saint-Etienne stadium. He was arrested on May 22. “We were dealing with someone who was not on file, who was not known to the police and faced with this type of jihadism, the security response must not be low-cost”he defends, “we are therefore attentive to the cuts made in the budget of the national police, because security has a cost, it has a price”.
