The kick-off was at noon on Thursday at the Presidents Cup.
After heavy rain overnight and in the morning at the Royal Montreal, the sky cleared, allowing Australian Jason Day and South Korean Byeong Hun An to kick off hostilities with a four-ball match against Americans Xander Schauffele and Tony Finau, starting at 11:35 a.m.
Among the other duels on the bill, the world’s number one golfer, Scottie Scheffler, and his American compatriot Russell Henley will face South Koreans Sungjae Im and Tom Kim.
Two Canadians will also be in action on this first day of competition. Ontario’s Taylor Pendrith and South Africa’s Christiaan Bezuidenhout will face Americans Wyndham Clark and Keegan Bradley, while Ontario’s Corey Conners and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama will cross swords with Americans Patrick Cantley and Sam Burns.
The other duel on the bill will pit Australians Adam Scott and Min Woo Lee against Americans Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala.
The American team, led by captain Jim Furyk, is the reigning champion of this prestigious competition which pits it against the international team, led by Canadian captain Mike Weir.
The United States won the 2022 Presidents Cup 17.5-12.5 at Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, to mark the Americans’ ninth straight victory in the competition and their 12the in 14 editions.
The international team’s only victory came at Royal Melbourne in Australia in 1998.
In addition, this is the second time that the Royal Montreal Golf Club has hosted the Presidents Cup. The last time, in 2007, the United States team won 19.5-14.5.
