“It’s a scandal!” Marie-Sophie Lacarrau unable to be impartial on the TF1 news when she has to mention the destroyed Carnac menhirs for a DIY store!

A destruction that will not please Obelix… The famous Gaul, who has never hidden his love for menhirs, has just seen 39 of them destroyed this Tuesday, June 6, as revealed West France. It is in Morbihan, in Carnac, more precisely, that the destruction took place to make way for a vast construction site. Indeed, a DIY store should soon see the light of day according to Christian Obeltz, a Carnacois, former vice-president of the association Free standing stones.

“The small menhirs on the Chemin de Montauban undoubtedly constituted one of the oldest sets of stelae in the commune of Carnac, judging by the carbon 14 dating obtained in 2010 on the neighboring site of the ZA de Montauban: 5480- 5320 BC, i.e. the highest dating obtained for a menhir in the west of France”lamented Christian Obeltz on the site of the association for the defense of heritage, Sites and monumentsas noted Le Figaro. Some of these menhirs had been in place… for 7000 years.

Marie-Sophie Lacarrau, shocked that we can issue “a building permit”

Annoyed by the situation, the Koun Breizh association decided to lodge a complaint with the public prosecutor of Vannes. A complaint for “willful destruction aggravated by the fact that it concerns the archaeological heritage”was filed as reported West France. “The purpose of this complaint is to ensure that all the light is shed to explore the chain of decision-making that led to the destruction of these Menhirs, to ensure the cessation of these actions and to establish responsibilities”wrote the Breton memory association.

This Wednesday, June 7, Marie-Sophie Lacarrau could not miss this subject. The newscaster of TF1 even had a hard time remaining impartial when she had to launch the subject of the report. “The controversy of the day brings us to Carnac in Brittany… It’s a scandal, say the inhabitants. 39 menhirs were destroyed to build instead… a DIY store. They were part of a well-known archaeological site”she explained at first before letting go: “We wonder how the building permit could have been issued…” just before the magneto is started…
