“It’s a miracle, we no longer believed it”, whisper the inhabitants

Lisa, a 17-year-old teenager, was found safe and sound on the evening of Tuesday, November 9 in Sablé-sur-Sarthe (Sarthe). She had disappeared the day before in Saint-Brice (Mayenne), ten kilometers away, while she had gone for a jog in the forest. For the inhabitants, even if it is not yet clear on Wednesday what happened during the 24 hours that his disappearance lasted, the news remains reassuring.

At midday Wednesday, we still feel a certain astonishment in the shopping street of Sablé-sur-Sarthe, where the teenager found refuge in a kebab the night before. While the curious linger in front of the snack bar, the boss does not intend to open his establishment for the day, given the circumstances. He does not wish to speak either, like a majority of people. Indeed, the gendarmerie locks communication a lot in order to protect the investigation.

In front of the high school in the city where Lisa is educated, on the other hand, the languages are loosened a bit. “I was worried because it is something serious”, confides Marco, one of his comrades, who says to himself “reassured for his parents”. However, the high school student is not completely serene. “Sometimes we go for a walk in this forest with my parents. To think that you can go there and that these things happen to you, it’s scary. Now, we are going to be wary of it.” The high school students confide that the event has “damaged morale”.

“He’s someone from our high school. If it happened to him, it could have happened to us.”

Ten kilometers away, in Saint-Brice (Mayenne), the shock is the same. In the small village of 500 inhabitants, not far from the forest where Lisa had gone to run and disappeared, the gendarmes continued to circulate on Wednesday, in particular to the young girl’s home to meet her parents. “It’s a less weight and an incredible relief”, says Thierry, who learned in his dairy truck that the teenager had been found.

“I felt joy, I was so happy in my truck”, remembers the milkman, also the father of a family. “It’s a miracle because we no longer believed in it at all. From now on, I hope that everything will be in order and that they will catch the right people.” It is for this purpose that 100 gendarmes remained mobilized in the field.
