“It’s a member of our family who left us”, deplores Khaled Drareni, spokesperson for Reporters Without Borders (RSF) for North Africa, based in Algiers, on franceinfo, Saturday June 8, after the death of Christophe Deloire. The journalist, who was 53, had been secretary general of the NGO since 2012. “We owe him this mobilization for the liberation of journalists throughout the world, we owe him his availability, his generosity”underlines the man who had been imprisoned in Algeria and for whom RSF had mobilized to request his release.
“Hundreds of journalists around the world are free today, thanks to him, thanks to the work of RSF. This is why we are grateful for him, for his generosity, for his fight”, continues the Algerian journalist. He remembers in particular “the hate campaign” launched against Christophe Deloire “by the CNews teams and some journalists because he also wanted to stand up as one man to defend freedom of the press and the freedom to inform in France”. He adds : “Today he lost his last fight, after winning all the fights he fought successfully and without exception.”
Khaled Drareni says he met Christophe Deloire for the first time last year, during a tour of French cities mobilized for his liberation, such as Rennes, Lyon and Paris. “We remember his generous spirit, his smile, his incredible curiosity, his way of asking questions, his picky side”greets the RSF spokesperson. “Christophe is a very dear one that we have lost and I think that we have all lost a part of ourselves”he concludes.
