Carole Grimaud, vice-president of the Geneva Geostrategic Observatory, discusses the signing of agreements between Ukraine, Germany and France, Friday February 16.
Volodymyr Zelensky meets Olaf Scholz and Emmanuel Macron, Friday February 16. Agreements will be signed, which is important for the Ukrainian president. “It is a bilateral security agreement that the United Kingdom already signed in January“, explains Carole Grimaud, vice-president of the Geneva Geostrategic Observatory. “It is a guarantee of military security, but also political”, she adds. This agreement will allow Ukraine to receive modern equipment and will be an aid to cyber defense.
Ukraine is in trouble
“It’s a whole vast envelope that allows Ukraine to be assured of the support of its allies”, indicates Carole Grimaud. Vladimir Putin had indicated that he was not opposed to these security agreements, as long as Ukraine does not join NATO. With these agreements, arms deliveries can make a difference on the ground, but it will take time.
“Today, Ukraine is truly in difficulty with American military aid which is slow to be decided (…) this aid which is decided in this bilateral agreement (…) will perhaps not be as strong, as powerful so that Ukraine can turn the situation around”concludes the vice-president of the Geneva Geostrategic Observatory.
