Chile has been affected for several days by violent fires which have already killed at least 112 people. Thanks to an improvement in temperatures, the fires were able to be contained, said Paola Martinez Infante, Chilean journalist, editor-in-chief of Amor el Chaos.
“It is a country that is devastated, a country that has almost experienced the apocalypse for three days.”, said Paola Martinez Infante, Chilean journalist, editor-in-chief of Amor el Chaos. The country’s president Gabriel Boric convened a National Security Council this Monday, February 5, to discuss all of Chile’s problems and therefore these recent fires. The objective is to find solutions to put an end to the fires and help the population. “There are 112 dead, still hundreds of people missing 100,000 hectares went up in smoke and in particular entire neighborhoods which were ravaged by the flames”, continued the journalist.
Fires caused by heatwave
“The fires were contained thanks to improved weather conditions”, revealed Paola Martinez Infante. The fires were caused by severe heatwaves which affected the center and south of the country, particularly the Valparaiso area. “Forest fires are constant at this time of year, favored in particular by climate change. Firefighters are working hard to prevent other fires from igniting and reaching densely populated areas.”, she concluded.
