Tuesday April 2, footballer Raphaël Varane warned about concussions in his sport. Jean-Marc Sène, sports doctor and Mathieu Rollinger, editor-in-chief of “So Foot” are the guests of 19/20 info, Wednesday.

In an interview for the newspaper The Teame, Raphaël Varane warned about concussions in football and called for a “awareness”. A concussion is “brain trauma (…) is the fact that there is a real shock wave, which passes through the skull”explains Jean-Marc Sène, sports doctor. “There is an electrical and chemical brain dysfunction”, he adds. If concussions accumulate, the brain can swell and this can lead to death. Finally, after-effects can occur.

“There are a lot of sporting issues”

If these dangers are known in boxing or rugby, they are less so for football. “There is awareness among the medical staff (…) but the problem is that there are also a lot of sporting issues”indicates Mathieu Rollinger, editor-in-chief of So Foot. “Would PSG deprive itself of Kylian Mbappé, for example, for ten minutes just to examine him (…) would we deprive ourselves of him for a week if he had really had this concussion?”he asks.
