ITHQ teachers give themselves a strike mandate

After laborious negotiations started since March 2021, the Union of Teachers of the Institute of Tourism and Hospitality of Quebec is brandishing the threat of a strike.

Without a collective agreement since March 20020, union members voted overwhelmingly in favor of an eight-day strike bank that the union intends to use when it sees fit, SEEITHQ-CSN reported Monday.

“As of last Thursday, the ITHQ was rightly proud of its solid national and international reputation by partnering with Ferrandi, a major French gastronomy school,” indicated Éric Guay, president of SEEITHQ, for whom this reputation does not would not exist without teachers.

Despite the involvement of teachers in the influence of the establishment, staff earn lower salaries for greater workloads and must wait on average a decade to acquire tenure.

“The employer never takes seniority into account when assigning tasks to teachers,” lamented Léandre Lapointe, vice-president of the National Federation of Quebec Teachers, responsible for the private group (FNEEQ-CSN ).

Due to the legal status of the ITHQ, which has become an organization outside the public service, the union would like the collective agreement to be based on that of teachers in the province and not that of civil servants.
