ITHQ | Lack of consensus, union members will go on strike on Monday

(Montreal) The 140 members of the Teachers’ Union of the Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec-CSN (SEEITHQ-CSN) will go on strike on Monday, citing “the lack of sufficient progress” at the negotiation table.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the union said it would picket outside the Institute on Monday at noon.

Last November, union members voted 97% for an eight-day strike mandate, after negotiations that had dragged on since March 2021. On the Confederation of National Trade Unions (CSN) website, the union claimed to have held four conciliation sessions and thirty-two bargaining sessions in less than two years.

Without a collective agreement since March 2020, workers are demanding wages adapted to their growing workload. They also deplore the delay of nearly 10 years to obtain tenure.

In 2019, the ITHQ became a government agency outside the public service. SEEITHQ-CSN would therefore like the collective agreement to be based on that of the province’s teaching body, and not that of civil servants.
