(Milan) Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi left the intensive care unit in which he had been for ten days, but remains hospitalized in Milan (North), his doctors confirmed on Monday.
The 86-year-old media mogul was admitted to intensive care at the prestigious San Raffaele Hospital on April 5 due to a lung infection and chronic leukemia.
“Currently, the clinical condition and response to treatment have permitted the transfer of […] Silvio Berlusconi in an ordinary hospital ward,” doctors Alberto Zangrillo and Fabio Ciceri said in a statement released by the hospital.
He remains under surveillance and treatment continues, they added.
They did not say when Mr Berlusconi left intensive care, but the information was reported Sunday evening by the main Italian daily Corriere della Sera.
Mr. Berlusconi, who was prime minister three times between 1994 and 2011, has increased hospital stays in recent years.
He is currently a senator and president of the right-wing Forza Italia party, a member of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s coalition government.
Despite a series of sex scandals and court cases that have tarnished his image, he has retained a special place in the hearts of many Italians.
