Another World Cup round victory for Sofia Goggia. The Italian won the descent of Val d’Isère on Saturday, December 18, beating Brizzy Johnson and Mirjam Puchner by 27 and 91 hundredths respectively. Sofia Goggia is having an impressive start to the season: after winning the two descents at Lake Louise at the start of December, this is the third time in three races that she has won the event, in which she is a specialist. The absences of her direct competitors made her job easier. Mikaela Shiffrin had decided to skip the Val d’Isère stages while Lara Gut-Behrami was forced to forfeit after having tested positive for Covid-19.
Thanks to this victory, the Italian took the lead in the standings, ten points ahead of Mikaela Shiffrin. (535 against 520). The American will try to regain the leadership position during the Savoyard Super-G on Sunday – for which she has finally decided to participate.
The French skiers did not work miracles in front of their public. Romane Miradoli, the top ranked Habs, finished 29th, three places ahead of Camille Cerrutti and five ahead of Esther Paslier, while Tiffany Gauthier did not leave, suffering from a knee problem.
