Max Verstappen (Red Bull), leader of the world championship, set the second fastest time in qualifying on Saturday but the Dutchman will only start on the 7e place, penalized for a change of internal combustion engine beyond the authorized quota each season.

The second row will be 100% McLaren, with Briton Lando Norris and Australian Daniel Ricciardo. They will start in front of a third row made up of Spaniard Fernando Alonso (Alpine) and Frenchman Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri).

Qualifying was special due to numerous penalties for changing engine parts or gearboxes beyond the limits authorized each season by the regulations.

In addition to Verstappen, eight other drivers are sanctioned. Among them, Sergio Pérez (Red Bull), 3e of the world championship, a will be demoted ten places after signing on Saturday the 4e chrono of the “qualifiers”.

For Ferrari, Leclerc will find himself lonely at the front, because the other Scuderia driver, Carlos Sainz, will start at the back of the grid… although he has long dominated qualifying and signed 3e chrono, behind Leclerc and Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), 6e of the championship and 5e time of these qualifications, will also start at the back of the grid, many components of its engine having been changed.
