The law constrains telephone canvassers much more since March 1, 2023. These calls are now prohibited on weekends. For Christophe Naegelen, the deputy behind the law, the ban is not the solution, but he pleads for more means to better control these companies.
“It would be useless to completely ban” le canvassing, assures Christophe Naegelen, this Wednesday on franceinfo. The UDI deputy for the 3rd district of the Vosges is at the origin of the law on the supervision of telephone canvassing, voted in 2020 and for which the last decree comes into force on Wednesday March 1.
It is now forbidden to call for commercial canvassing on weekends and public holidays. On weekdays, calls must be made between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., or between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Administrations, polling institutes, associations and the press are not affected by this framework for cold calling.
The member recognizes that this is a “form of harassment” but according to him, we cannot completely stop cold calling, because some people, especially the older ones, use it “to do their shopping” or keep “a link with the outside world”.
To stop being called, you must register on Bloctel
Christophe Naegelen also assures that a total ban would be useless, because some companies “would continue to break the law”. It is currently mandatory for companies to pass their contact file on the Bloctel platform, to remove all customers who refuse canvassing. But “some companies don’t”, says the deputy.
The Vosgien ensures that it would be necessary “increase the number of staff at the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Prevention (DGCCRF)” And “to have feedback” to better control these companies.
Despite his “holes in the racket”, the deputy recommends everyone to register on Bloctel. If you are called by a telephone platform outside authorized hours or during the weekend, you must “note the number and call the DGCCRF” to sanction the company.
