“Alexeï Navalny was courage made man” greets Place Publique MEP Raphaël Glucksmann on franceinfo Friday February 16, after the death of the Russian opponent. He points to Vladimir Putin as “sole and unique responsible” of his death and he adds: the Russian president “is an assassin, a killer and his political career is punctuated by corpses”.

According to the prison services of the Yamal-Nenets region (northern Russia), Alexeï Navalny died at the age of 47 from illness. Raphaël Glucksmann does not hope for an investigation: “There will be no independent investigation, since there has never been an independent justice system since Vladimir Putin came to power in 1999”.

The author of “The great confrontation: how Putin is waging war on our democracies” request to set up “what Alexei Navalny had request” : its anti-corruption foundation had notably proposed 6,000 Russian names to be sanctioned for corruption. Raphaël Glucksmann also mentions the 200 billion euros in Russian assets frozen by the G7 countries and the European Union after the invasion of Ukraine, and located on the Euroclear platform in Belgium. The MP calls on the European Parliament to confiscate the frozen money: “Let us have the courage to seize these assets and allocate them to aid Ukraine, that would be the best tribute to pay to Alexeï Navalny”.
