“It was horrible”, the very special memories of Etienne Daho with Jane Birkin

Six months after the discovery of Jane Birkin alive in her Parisian home, Étienne Daho wanted to return to the singer’s disappearance. And for good reason, the artist knew her well! As proof, it was he who produced the singer’s fourteenth and final album released on December 11, 2020. A project entitled Oh ! Sorry you were sleeping which also bears the name of a song that we find in the album… And not just any song since it is a featuring with Étienne Daho.

A hit of which the author-composer has very special memories… On the airwaves of RTLthis Wednesday February 7, 2024, Étienne Daho in fact remembered the filming of the clip designed by Jane Birkin… A complicated moment for him to experience!

“She made me do incredible things. In the text, for example, she made me say ‘you’re done bothering me’. I don’t know how to do that… Afterwards, she made a clip on this song , I really had the wrong role, I was the bad guy and I had to lock her in a suitcase and I saw that I was hurting her, it was horrible, she said to me ‘but continue'”did he declare.

And to add a beautiful tribute to the artist who died at the age of 76: “It’s a lesson to have been by her side, she was someone who had not very good health and she never complained. We sometimes wondered […] if she was going to go on stage, but she never complained, she never said anything, she always won, every night. It’s beautiful to have shared moments with a warrior. He was someone so young, generous, fun…”

“This record was incredible”

A joint project by Étienne Daho which is therefore the pride of the artist: “This record was incredible because as all the texts were written by her, it was a way of getting her out of her role as muse. I was fed up with that, I wanted us to listen to these texts. J “I wanted us to see her more as an artist than a muse and with this album, we succeeded. She was very happy to make this record”he concluded.
