It was embarrassing, disturbing and even contrary to our principles to see hooded people marching: the law forbids it and the law must be respected“, reacts Tuesday, May 9 on franceinfo Laurent Jacobelli, deputy of Moselle and spokesperson for the National Rally (RN). Faced with the controversy caused by a parade of several hundred ultra-right activists on Saturday, May 6, the government will now ban all manifestations of this movement.

Any demonstration that could lead to violence is prohibited in France.“, continues Laurent Jacobelli, “the prefects will take their responsibilities. We must respect the freedom to demonstrate but also condemn movements that could be violent“.

Laurent Jacobelli also refutes any proximity between the RN and these activists: “Do you believe that there is something in common between the people who marched and the parliamentarians, the mayors of the RN? (…) If you want to find connections, look at La France insoumise and the black blocks (…) you won’t find that on our side“, replies the deputy. “We are reasonable people, the RN is a government party and there is no comparison to be made between the movements we have seen in the streets and the work we are doing“.
