“It sometimes ended with a few rants”, for the first time the eldest daughter of Jean-Pierre Pernaut testifies

On March 2, the world of television and most of the French learned very sad news. The one who accompanied them during their lunch, at 1 p.m., for nearly 32 years, left this world after a long fight against lung cancer. Jean-Pierre Pernaut had announced his illness a few months earlier and had assured that he was going to fight to fight it. Unfortunately, as so often, cancer was stronger and prevailed…

The funeral of the former presenter of the JT of TF1 was held on March 9 at the Sainte-Clotilde basilica (Paris 7th). His children were obviously present and in particular Julia, the fruit of his previous relationship with Dominique Bonnet. It’s her, according to Gala, who “gave the final eulogy after his three siblings”. If she only keeps good memories of her father, she also returned to some complicated moments, especially during family meals. “They sometimes ended up with a few rants”relay our colleagues before adding: “We built ourselves on a solid base that you and mom passed on to us: hard work, rigour, respect, tolerance, humility. We are now passing these values on to our children. Your grandchildren, of whom you were so proud” .

A final tribute

Olivier Pernaut, brother of Julia, also wanted to address a few touching words to his dad. “We both looked a little worried, I think. And we didn’t really want to leave each other that day,” he remembered, later regretting: “Dad, you deserved so much to enjoy your retirement, to rest. To travel, to spend time with your children, your grandchildren”.

In addition to the children, many friends of Jean-Pierre Pernaut also wanted to pay him a last tribute during his funeral. The ex-presenter will be missed by many people and the mourning will not be done anytime soon…
