Anna Aublin, nurse, follows up on Édith, a patient treated at home for her breast cancer, thanks to a shared application, Ako@Dom-Picto. (ANNE-LAURE DAGNET / RADIO FRANCE)

Anna the nurse comes to Edith’s every day. In her pavilion near Reims, the 50-year-old is undergoing home treatment for her breast cancer. To check that Edith is taking her pills well and that there are not too many side effects, Anna Aublin does a check-up every week using an application on her phone. This device, Ako@Dom-Picto, allows patients with cancer who are being treated at home to be monitored at home.

“Hair loss…Still notshe ticks. Respiratory problems? No. Cough? No. It is very good.” The nurse also checks that her patient is in good spirits. “We are sensitive both at the psychological level and at the functional level, patho. We try to perceive the little worries that she will not necessarily be able to detect or verbalize.” And it is this support that Edith appreciates the most. “The nurse brings me a lot on a mental level, especiallyshe confirms. I know I can trust. It helps a lot.”

“The patient is not alone with his chemo box”

Once the interview is over, the nurse validates her report on the application. “When we finalize, we recordshe explains. There, it just gives us small monitoring alerts related to the respiratory rate which is considered a little low. It’s going to go back to the APN, the advanced practice nurse, and the doctor involved, the oncologist.”

Edith’s oncologist is doctor Christelle Jouannaud who sees many advantages to this device, Ako@Dom-Picto, which she has been experimenting with for a year. “It reassures everyone, the patient who is at home with his treatment. He could be very anxious but there, he has a network around him which reassures him. And that reassures us, us, prescribers, since we know that the patient is not alone with his box of chemotherapy at home.” These patients cared for at home for cancer can also be followed by pharmacists whom they see once a month to take stock thanks to this application, shared by the entire healthcare team.
