This COP28 signed in Dubai “leaves a bitter taste” while we “go straight into the wall”, declared Marine Tondelier Thursday December 14 on franceinfo. The national secretary of the Ecologists (new name of Europe Ecology – The Greens) believes that this COP28 has a “historical” as certain states or elected politicians have proclaimed, but only by “the weight of the oil lobbies in the discussions” to reach an agreement.

“I have the impression that there is always a syndrome during COPs, where you shake for days and nights and you want to rejoice at the landingexplains Marine Tondelier. “We have had historic COPs, but I can no longer say it, and especially not for this one.”

In Dubai on Wednesday, 200 countries agreed to gradually abandon fossil fuels. “It’s better than nothing”says the national secretary of the Ecologists, “but if this energy COP is historic, it is because of the weight of the oil lobbies in the discussions”. Marine Tondelier is concerned about the serenity of the debates and the lightness of the international measures taken against the use of fossil fuels then “that we are driving into the wall at high speed”.

“We are at a moment when we should panic, where we should be betting everything to save the habitability of the planet.”

“Because that’s what’s going to happen by 2050, a third of the planet will no longer be habitable.she insists. We are heading into a wall. People need to be aware of this.”

“Emmanuel Macron confuses the COP and Le Bourget”

Shortly after the officialization of COP28, Emmanuel Macron greeted on “Dubai agreement which commits the world to a transition without fossil fuels, recognizing the key role of nuclear power”. Already, Saturday December 2 in Dubai, the French President of the Republic was alongside the American envoy John Ferry and around twenty other countries to call for tripling nuclear energy production capacity between 2020 and 2050. “I have the impression that Emmanuel Macron is confusing the COP with the Paris Air Show,” tance Marine Tondelier, “instead of selling planes, it comes to sell nuclear power plants. At one point, that was not the purpose of the COP.”

According to the head of the Ecologists, “everyone in the world recognizes it, including pro-nuclear people”that this type of energy production does not “will never produce more than 5% of the world’s energy, we don’t know how to industrialize this technology and make it save the world”. Before concluding that if France uses its nuclear power plants so much to produce electricity, “this is because it is behind in the production of renewable energies”.
