“It is simply unworthy to insult voters in this way who have nothing to do, either directly or indirectly, with the filthy beast that is the far right”protested on Monday June 13 on franceinfo David Cormand, MEP EELV, while the presidential majority is struggling to give clear voting instructions in the event of a second round RN-Nupes in the legislative elections.

The Republic on the move will not give national instructions, but “case by case” in the constituencies where candidates from the National Rally and Nupes will oppose each other. On the other hand, without ambiguity, David Cormand says that he will vote LREM in the event of a duel between the RN and the presidential majority. “There has never been any equivocation with us”he said.
franceinfo: According to the projections in seats, it will be difficult for Nupes to obtain a majority in the National Assembly. Do you still believe it?
David Corman: The projections in seats, that does not mean much. A two-round election is two elections and to participate in the second, you must have been qualified at the end of the first. Five years ago, the left was present in approximately 170 constituencies out of 577. There, we are present in more than 450 constituencies. This means that next Sunday, the French men and women will decide who has the majority in the National Assembly. It is a fundamental election, somewhere even more fundamental than the presidential election. If all the people voted either for Mélenchon, or for Jadot, or for Hidalgo, or either Roussel in the presidential election revote next Sunday, we will have a majority in the National Assembly.
There is a controversy over the results posted overnight by the Ministry of the Interior. Manuel Bompard, of La France insoumise, accuses the Minister of the Interior of having forgotten the votes of the Nupes in order to artificially put the presidential coalition in the lead. You confirm ?
Yes, they cheated. The people who voted for Nupes, for example in Overseas France, they did not count them, whereas those who, under the same conditions, voted for La République en Marche, they counted them, so they did an apothecary’s calculation. It doesn’t matter, it doesn’t honor politics. The reality is that it is the worst score for a presidential party in a legislative following a presidential election. It means that there is no really popular expectation of Emmanuel Macron. People voted for him to avoid it being the extreme right in the second round of the presidential election, but there is no momentum.

The presidential majority does not give voting instructions in the event of a second round RN-Nupes. How do you react?
I expressed my outrage not only at what Olivia Grégoire said [porte-parole du gouvernement] which, between the extreme right and a coalition of leftists and ecologists, does not choose. But also the Prime Minister who sends back to back the democratic parties that make up the Nupes and the far right. A Prime Minister should not say that in a country where we know what the extreme right is. We also know what the left is, and it’s still not the same thing. Yannick Jadot is right to say that if we hadn’t been there in the second round of the presidential election, Marine Le Pen would be President of the Republic as we speak.

Elisabeth Borne clarified her thoughts in a tweet a little later, writing “never give a voice to the far right”. In the event of a duel between an RN candidate and a candidate from the presidential camp, what instructions do you give?
We vote LREM. We vote against the extreme right. We vote to defeat the extreme right. We must prevent these people from coming to power because when they take it they don’t give it back. They say so. It only takes once when they win, they don’t give back the power of their own free will. So we have to prevent them from being in power. You have to vote against. It’s that simple. There has never been any equivocation with us.
