“It is simply the Iranian cause that is honored”reacts Franco-Iranian author Marjane Satrapi after the announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize awarded on Friday October 6 to the Iranian activist and journalist currently imprisoned, Narges Mohammadi. “It is not only the fight of women, it is the fight of an entire people and it is the fight of an entire youth who are modern youth, who just want to live freely. (…) Elsewhere, Narges Mohammadi is a human rights activist. This is why she has been imprisoned several times since 1998.”she explains.

For Marjane Satrapi, the fact that it is the “second Iranian woman, human rights defender”to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize is important: “This must make people understand that there is a real thing happening in this Iranian society. (…) This torch is carried by women because women’s rights are the rights of society in general. A society where women are oppressed can never claim democracy.”
