“It’s not a big COP”, reacted on franceinfo the climatologist Jean Jouzel, after the announcement, Saturday, November 13, of a final agreement at the COP26 in Glasgow to accelerate the fight against global warming. “There are some interesting points on coal, methane, but there was not this dynamic that we hoped for”, he adds.

This agreement provides for the “full and effective” implementation of the Paris Agreement, “this is very important”, estimates the climatologist. But many black spots persist according to him, such as “difficulty that developed countries have to keep their commitments vis-à-vis developing countries”, because no solution has been found on this issue of international solidarity.

Jean Jouzel regrets that there has not been “of real ambition”, “we always postpone until next year”, he regrets, referring to the objectives of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The climatologist does not believe that it is possible to stay on the 1.5-degree trajectory provided for by the Paris Agreement: “We set out for 15% more greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, that is to say that we will have emitted all the carbon dioxide that we have the right to emit for stay below 1.5 degrees from 2030. No one has been able to pull this COP up. “
