It is no longer necessary to go to the SAAQ to renew your health insurance card

The Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) announced on Thursday that it is no longer necessary to go to an office of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) to renew a health insurance card.

Quebecers are temporarily invited to mail their completed and signed renewal form to the Régie de l’assurance maladie. People do not have to provide a photo, because the Régie will use the one already on file.

This flexibility measure is put in place to prevent citizens from going to an SAAQ service point. For the past few weeks, traffic and waiting times at SAAQ offices have been high due to the difficulties associated with the government corporation’s digital shift.

For several years now, in normal circumstances, driver’s license and health insurance card renewals have been carried out simultaneously at the SAAQ offices.

People whose health insurance card has been expired for more than six months are invited to call the RAMQ to obtain a new one. In the case of an expiration of less than six months, the renewal notice received by people should be used. If the renewal notice has been lost, it can be ordered on the RAMQ website.
