“The violence must stop”reacts this Sunday, October 2 Catherine Colonna, the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the microphone of RFI and Radio France, while the head of the ruling junta, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, finally agreed to resign after two days of tensions marked by anti-French demonstrations.

The Minister recalls that “serious and intolerable incidents” targeted the French embassy as well as certain French companies. “We note that a number of false information are circulating. They may have led to movements tending to consider that France was involved in the internal political crisis that Burkina Faso is experiencing: it is not so”explains Catherine Colonna, assuring that “France is not a party to these events”.
Regarding the resignation of Lieutenant-Colonel Damiba, the head of French diplomacy wishes to formally deny the fact that France could have been in contact with the head of the junta: “At no time was Mr. Damiba at the embassy or with French soldiers. This is information that was probably disseminated maliciously”.
She recalls, however, that “contacts” take place but only for “Ensure the security” French people on the spot. Instructions have also been given by the embassy, inviting French nationals to stay at home and to show “greater vigilance”.
