On Wednesday October 4, the 27 reached an agreement on a European migration policy. On the set of 19/20 info, Laurence Boone, the Secretary of State for Europe, indicates: “Objectively, it’s a good agreement. It’s a European agreement which will make it possible to secure Europe’s borders. We can also discuss departures with the countries.” The minister specifies that “the objective is to control migratory flows, therefore to be able to register people who arrive, to be able to process their cases very quickly”.
Relocation mechanisms
Laurence Boone explains this last measure: “For those who do not have the right to asylum, in five days, they will be able to return to their country”. The procedure will also be accelerated for everyone. “We will be able to treat [les dossiers] in Europeans and then allocate them to different countries of the European Union in solidarity.” The text also provides for relocation mechanisms. “You have two options: either you accept a certain number of migrants, or you contribute financially to the States which accept migrants”specifies the minister.
