This Wednesday, November 1, 2023, Flo, first feature film directed by Géraldine Danon, released in cinemas. This biopic highlights the life of Florence Arthaud, a legendary French sailor. The latter is best known for being the first and only woman to have won the famous Route du Rhum race in 1990. For the filmmaker, the aim of this achievement was to pay tribute to her faithful friend who died tragically in a road accident. helicopter in 2015.
However, despite Géraldine Danon’s laudable intention to honor the memory of the one nicknamed the little bride of the Atlantic, harsh criticism from Florence’s family shook the director. Indeed, the members of the Arthaud clan were not consulted, reports RMC. “It comes out distorted”deplores Hubert, the navigator’s brother.
According to him, numerous alterations of reality and even blatant inaccuracies appeared in the film, particularly with regard to the road accident. The feature film presents Florence Arthaud as being behind the wheel, intoxicated, when in reality, she was not the driver, denounces the latter’s nephew.
Faced with these accusations, the director justifies her choices by affirming that the film represents her own vision and that she wanted above all to highlight the determination of an independent woman who fought to realize her dreams.

“I am furious”
This is unfortunately not the first time that Florence’s family has pointed out Géraldine Danon’s film in the media. “I’m furious. We wouldn’t have been against it if the film had been a tribute to Florence. This film is supposedly made by friends, but my sister was never friends with Géraldine Danon! She is part of these groupies, these businessmen… His film is defamatory from the first scene”Hubert recently confided in the columns of the magazine Closer.
Upset, the main interested party therefore did not fail to respond to her detractors. “It’s sad. I don’t know what he’s looking for. No doubt, as his nephew Aymeric said, I came across it last night because, obviously, it concerns me, because it’s not pleasant, to get publicity. That’s the only thing I see. I read that Aymeric Arthaud said in 2015 that he was looking to get publicity on Dropped (Florence Arthaud had his accident during the filming of this show, editor’s note), so I think that’s it”, declared the director at the microphone of Culture Media this Tuesday, October 31, 2023. And to conclude: “That he continues to go to the tabloid newspapers to say this kind of thing, it pains me a little but my film speaks for him.” Atmosphere…
