Israeli tanks march on Rafah, in the Gaza Strip, Tuesday May 7. The IDF took control of the Palestinian part of the crossing point with Egypt. Access to humanitarian aid was thus cut off.

Leaflets calling on residents of Rafah to leave the area were dropped by Israeli army planes. Tuesday, May 7, IDF armored vehicles crisscross the Palestinian part of the Rafah crossing point, on the border between Gaza and Egypt. The main entry point to the Gaza Strip, this area is now under Israeli control. Israeli soldiers raise their flag in victory over Hamas and Israel claims to have killed at least 20 of its members. The Israeli army justifies this action by a desire to destroy the last bastions of Hamas.

The two main aid delivery arteries closed

More than a million people have found refuge in Rafah, whose border crossing is a gateway for humanitarian aid to Gaza. The closure of this crossing point worries associations, who fear a famine in the Palestinian enclave. Hamas fired rockets at a gathering of Israeli troops around Kerem Shalom, the main crossing point between Israel and Gaza. The two main aid delivery routes to Gaza are therefore blocked.
