Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would meet him on Friday at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, on the sidelines of his official visit to Washington.
The former president and Republican candidate for the November presidential election had first mentioned a meeting on Wednesday, then Thursday, on his Truth Social network, before sending a press release mentioning a meeting on Friday.
“I am delighted to welcome Bibi Netanyahu to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. […] During my first term, we experienced peace and stability in the region, […] and we will know them again,” Donald Trump said.
Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with President Joe Biden, who has recovered from COVID-19, at the White House around 1 p.m. on Thursday. The meeting has been long-awaited, amid tensions between the two allied countries after more than nine months of war in Gaza.
“As I said in my discussions with President Zelensky [vendredi] and other world leaders in recent weeks, my agenda of PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH will demonstrate to the world that these horrific, deadly wars and violent conflicts must end,” Donald Trump said.
He also said that “millions of people are dying, and Kamala Harris is in no position to stop it.”
The Israeli prime minister, who arrived in Washington on Monday, is also due to deliver a speech to Congress on Wednesday and meet Vice President Kamala Harris later this week, who is now a candidate in the presidential election following Joe Biden’s withdrawal on Sunday.
He will also meet Thursday afternoon with the families of American hostages still held by Hamas, according to the White House schedule.
