The Israeli security services announced on Friday morning, April 8, that they had killed the man suspected of having carried out an attack in Tel Aviv the day before that caused two dead and ten injured. After a manhunt lasting several hours, the suspect was shot dead during a “exchange of fire” with the army and security forces near a mosque in the Jaffa neighborhood, Israeli police said.

According to the Shin Beth, the Israeli internal intelligence service, the assailant was 28 years old and named Raed Hazem. He is a Palestinian “no known affiliation” to an armed faction and hailed from the Jenin area in the northern West Bank, a Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967.

Thursday night’s attack is the second attack in nine days in the Tel Aviv area and the fourth in less than three weeks in Israel. The Israeli army responded by carrying out a series of raids in the occupied West Bank in late March, killing three fighters from the Islamic Jihad group.
