Israeli police have opened an investigation after activists blocked and vandalized at least seven humanitarian aid trucks destined for the Gaza Strip, they announced on Tuesday (May 14). Following a “disturbance of public order” Monday, “law enforcement opened an investigation which resulted in the arrest of several suspects”specifies the spokesperson for the Israeli police in the press release.
Dozens of unidentified militants, including many teenagers and young men, robbed the trucks. Bags of cereal, rice, flour, packets of biscuits or freeze-dried soups were emptied or thrown to the ground and trampled. The trucks were blocked in Israel, near the village of Shekef. Images on social media showed trucks being set on fire.
“We have hostages in Gaza and no humanitarian aid should be delivered until our hostages have returned home safely”declared Hana Giat, one of the activists of the Tsav 9 collective, suspected by Israeli media of being at the origin of Monday’s action because it is familiar with this type of blockages.
