The revelations about the use of the Pegasus software continue. The Israeli police allegedly used the spyware to hack into the phones of public figures, journalists and members of former Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s entourage, according to revelations from an Israeli newspaper on Monday (February 7th).

According to the daily economic calcalist, the use of the Pegasus program by the Israeli police had become common to gather intelligence, often without judicial authorization. From “businessmen”from “activists” or even “big business executives” were also targeted, according to the newspaper.

The police had previously admitted to using computer spy technologies “without warrant”without naming the Pegasus software from the Israeli company NSO – which has denied the latest accusations.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Monday promised a “responnse”. “The alleged facts are very serious”he said in a statement, adding that these spy tools “are not intended to be used for phishing campaigns against the Israeli public or officials, which is why we need to understand exactly what happened”.

NSO found itself exposed in 2021 after investigations published by a consortium of 17 international media outlets. According to them, the Pegasus software has been used to spy on the phones of journalists, politicians, activists and business leaders in different countries. Facts that have earned the firm to be placed on the blacklist of the United States.
