Israel is easing its health restrictions. The country will reopen its borders to unvaccinated people from March 1, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced on Sunday February 20. From this date, all foreign visitors will be able to enter Israel, provided they carry out a PCR test before their departure and another on their arrival.
Israeli citizens will only have to take a PCR test upon arrival, the prime minister’s office said. Naftali Bennett announced on Thursday the end of the health pass, claiming that the wave of contamination linked to the Omicron variant was now fading in Israel.
Nearly half of the country’s population received three doses of the vaccine, which health authorities say helped limit the number of hospitalizations during the height of the wave of the Omicron variant. The Jewish state recorded more than 10,000 new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday, a number well below the 85,000 daily cases at the end of January. In total, more than 3.5 million cases and 9,841 deaths have been recorded in Israel since the start of the pandemic.
