“We will not allow the Hezbollah militia to destabilize the border and the region. If Hezbollah continues its aggression, Israel will fight it with all its might.“, Yoav said Gallant, the Israeli Defense Minister, in a written message translated into Arabic for the Lebanese population. “Remember how [le chef du Hezbollah, Hassan] Nasrallah regretted his dangerous and miscalculated adventure he embarked on in August 2006, learn the lesson of the past so as not to fall into a dangerous scenario in August 2024”added Yoav Gallant, referring to the 2006 war between the two countries.

The confrontation in the summer of 2006, triggered by the capture by Hezbollah fighters of two Israeli soldiers on the Israeli-Lebanese border, left more than 1,200 dead in Lebanon, mostly civilians, and 160 in Israel, most of them soldiers. Since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, launched by Israel on October 7 in retaliation for the Hamas attack on Israeli soil the same day, cross-border exchanges of fire between Hezbollah and Tel Aviv have been almost daily, with the Lebanese Islamist movement claiming to attack Israel in support of its ally Hamas and the Palestinian people.
