Faced with a new wave of Covid-19 and despite a vaccination coverage of the 3rd dose which is struggling to spread, Israel has decided despite everything to reopen its borders. Why this choice ? The correspondents of France Télévisions carried out the investigation on the spot.

Israel reopened its borders within the week. Few tourists are however present at the airport for the moment, the news having only been announced a few days ago. For Israel, the few cases from abroad will no longer change the situation. The country is in fact overwhelmed by contaminations, so much so that it is forced to restrict testing. PCRs are, for example, prohibited for those under the age of 60.

Israel is therefore changing its strategy, and resolves to have Covid-19 spread among the least-at-risk population. “The Omicron is there, it is spreading, and we know that the disease is not going to be serious. It will only be serious for populations at risk, so the strategy is to protect them”, explains Valérie Aloush, Covid unit manager at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv.
