Following a stabbing attack that killed two people in Israel on the morning of Sunday, August 4, the Jewish state bombed southern Lebanon in the afternoon. Many Lebanese are fleeing the country, while this rise in tensions raises fears of a new conflagration in the region.
A stabbing attack killed two people on Sunday morning, August 4, in Holon (Israel), near Tel Aviv. Two other people were injured. The suspect is a Palestinian resident of the occupied West Bank. This attack comes in a context of great tension. The Israeli Minister of National Security called on citizens to arm themselves even more. “Our war is not only against Iran, it is also being fought in our streets. This is why we are arming our population, (with) 150,000 gun licenses granted in 8 months”said Itamar Ben-Gvir.
Anxiety has also taken hold in Lebanon, where many people are waiting to be able to leave the country at Beirut airport on Sunday. In the afternoon, the Israelis bombed the south of the country in retaliation for Hezbollah rockets launched during the night towards the Hebrew state. France advises its nationals to leave Lebanon as soon as possible. “I am very worried. We have no idea what is going to happen, how things are going to develop. We are keeping our fingers crossed and praying.”says a Lebanese woman upon landing in Paris.
