“Israel has the right to defend itself and even the duty to defend itself”said former socialist Prime Minister Manuel Valls on Wednesday February 21 on France Inter, while the town of Rafah, located in the south of the Gaza Strip, is threatened by an Israeli offensive.

The former head of government considers that there is no other “alternative for Israel”, “attacked on the 7th October in a despicable way”. Manuel Valls believes that if France “had been attacked, we would react” also, recalling that this is, according to him, what was done after the attacks of 2015. “The international coalition reacted, it bombed Mosul and other cities where the Islamic State was present”he explains.

Manuel Valls judges the war “terrible” and maintains that a “Palestinian death is worth an Israeli death”. But he wants to insist on the “Israel’s right to defend itself”. “This country is on the front line facing Islamism which also attacks us”underlines the former Prime Minister.
