Israel-Hamas war: 90 Canadians evacuated from Gaza this weekend

Ninety Canadians were able to leave the Gaza Strip to reach Egypt from the Rafah border, joining 360 other Canadian nationals who have evacuated since the border opened.

This was indicated by Global Affairs Canada on Monday, recalling that Canadians will only have the right to stay three days in Egypt.

Canadians who have not yet managed to cross the border could still expect “significant delays and closures without notice at the Rafah border crossing,” the ministry said.

“We continue to communicate directly with those affected in Gaza, asking them to have their travel documents at hand and to be ready to travel at very short notice,” he was assured.

As of Monday, 5,638 Canadians were registered on the List of Canadians Abroad in Israel, 434 in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and 18,023 in Lebanon, according to Global Affairs Canada.

Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly welcomed this new evacuation of Canadians from the war zone on Sunday evening.

“I would like to thank all of our staff, including those working at the Surveillance and Response Center, for ensuring their safe passage to Cairo,” she added on X.
