Messrs. Trudeau, Poilievre, Legault et tutti quanti, don’t speak in my name, please. No, I do not support Israel, nor Hamas. I am of the in-between, of nuance and recognition of the horrors on both sides. Mr. Legault, in the name of what do you refuse people to demonstrate in support of the Palestinian people? Which is very different from supporting Hamas. Palestinian deaths count less than Israeli deaths? For you, the Palestinians are all fundamentalists, only in Israel are there innocent civilians?
Well no, I do not support the oppression of the Palestinian people for more than 70 years by Israel, I do not support the blockade which will deprive innocent civilians in Gaza of water, medicine and food. I also do not support the thirst for revenge of Hamas, which takes advantage of despair to give free rein to barbarism.
And then, suffice to say, I believed that we had progressed since the Bush-style demonization comments of 2001. It is so disappointing, but not surprising, to see the eagerness of the United States to get involved in this war where money and politics as motivations replaced Americans’ desire for revenge at that time. And now our Justin and our Legault follow suit.
No, please don’t speak for me. Neither in that of Yahweh or Allah.
