Israel | Binyamin Netanyahu discharged from hospital

(Jerusalem) Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu was released from hospital on Sunday after being admitted there on Saturday for dehydration, his office said.

The 73-year-old prime minister was rushed to Sheba Hospital, Israel’s largest hospital, near Tel Aviv on Saturday.

“Our diagnosis after a series of examinations including laboratory tests is that the reason for hospitalization was dehydration,” said the Pr Amit Segev, head of the hospital’s cardiology department in a video released by his department.

“His heart is completely normal […]no arrhythmia was discovered […]we decided to put a subcutaneous Holter on him in order to continue monitoring, ”added the doctor.

Mr. Netanyahu was vacationing with his family by Lake Kineret in northern Israel as a heat wave gripped the entire country.

In a video recording released on Saturday after his hospitalization, Mr Netanyahu said he had spent time on the lake with his wife, “in the sun, without a hat, without water”.

It was “not a good idea”, he said, adding that he felt “very good”

He also recommended that Israelis “spend less time in the sun” and “drink more water” due to the high heat in the country.

Benyamin Netanyahu, who won the November 2022 elections with his allies from the ultra-Orthodox and far-right parties, is struggling domestically where he faces relentless opposition to the judicial reform project championed by his government. .

He is further charged with corruption in a series of cases.

His trial opened in May 2020, a first in Israel for a sitting prime minister. Mr. Netanyahu refutes the accusations brought against him and considers himself the victim of a witch hunt.

In October, he was hospitalized overnight after feeling unwell while fasting on Yom Kippur, the holiest holiday in the religious calendar.
