Ilya Sorokin made some important saves in the first two periods and recorded a fourth career shutout. He stopped 26 shots during the game.

Cal Clutterbuck and Anthony Beauvillier also shone the red light for the Islanders, who amassed five points in three games after starting the campaign with two losses.

The Coyotes limited shots and controlled the puck for long periods of time in the first two games. They were still trailing 2-0 before the third period.

Karel Vejmelka blocked 21 shots in front of the Coyotes, who are 0-4-1 since the start of the season.

The Islanders have arrived in the Arizona desert to play the fifth of 13 road games to start their season. The construction of their new amphitheater is about to be completed.
