(Winnipeg) Anders Lee scored in the first period and that’s pretty much all the New York Islanders needed to shut out the Winnipeg Jets 2-0 on Saturday night.
In his ninth straight game to start the season, Ilya Sorokin was perfect in front of 24 shots and recorded a third shutout, which is an NHL record.
Sorokin, like his team, has increased their record to 5-2-2 since the start of the campaign. Brock Nelson completed the score.
Eric Comrie blocked 29 of 31 pucks aimed at him and the Jets suffered a first loss at home this season.
The Islanders opened the scoring in the fourth minute of play. Josh Bailey spotted Lee in front of Comrie’s net and he lodged the disc over the goalie mitt.
Nelson doubled his team’s lead in the 47e second of the last engagement. He accepted a small pass from Kyle Palmieri before outwitting Comrie on the blocker’s side.
