Palestinian Islamic Jihad broadcast a video on Tuesday, May 28, of a living Israeli hostage, speaking in Hebrew in a short message. The young man, identified by Israeli media as Sacha Trupanov, 28, also known by the first name Alexander, is an Israeli-Russian citizen. He was captured on October 7 in the Nir Oz kibbutz, then taken to the Gaza Strip. The date the video was filmed remains unknown.
Sacha Trupanov’s mother, grandmother and partner were kidnapped the same day, before being released during the truce negotiated at the end of November between Hamas and Israel, which allowed the release of 105 hostages. His father, Vitaly Trupanov, 50, was killed in the attack.
For the Hostage Families Forum, the main Israeli association of relatives of hostages held in the Gaza Strip since October 7, this new video “is further and clear evidence that the Israeli government should give an important mandate to the negotiating team”in order to find “an agreement for the return of all the hostages, the living for rehabilitation and the murdered for their burial”. According to Israeli authorities, 121 hostages could still be in the Gaza Strip.
