Difficult retirement
Isabelle and Patrick Balkany were sentenced for money laundering and tax evasion to three and a half and four and a half years in prison. They were fined 100,000 euros and ten years of ineligibility. It is in their property in Giverny, estimated at 5 million euros by the tax authorities, that they live a retirement of“boredom” as they confided in the columns of Paris Match. “We still have time to piss off and wait for the end”dropped the 74-year-old man.
The Balkany spouses have 12,000 euros a month thanks to their retirement as mayor and first deputy. “They add interest each time… I don’t argue, we reimburse”, he added. Their huge debt amounts to 12 million euros, which they repay to the tax authorities up to 2,000 euros per month.
Moreover, they will be judged on April 4 in Nanterre for “invasion of privacy”, accused of having sent to four elected officials, including the mayor of Levallois, pornographic photos which show the current first deputy, David-Xavier Weiss. And other trials could follow…
