For an employee who has had a full career, the pension must not be less than 1100 euros. This is the objective announced by Emmanuel Macron, but Jean-Luc Mélenchon sees it as a deception and ensures that it was voted in 2003 that retirement should not be less than 85% of the minimum wage. The rebellious leader is right, and these 85% correspond well today to 1100 euros. The target was therefore not met.

Economist Philippe Crevel, however, specifies that “it was a goal” and not a provision that should de facto apply. Result: the minimum pension is now only 980 euros. If it is supposed to follow the rise in prices, successive governments have not sufficiently upgraded them. In 2019, pensions were only increased by 0.3%, while inflation rose to 1.8%.
