Ukraine is facing several difficulties in accessing definitive membership of the European Union.
After extolling the merits of the European way of life, Volodymyr Zelensky broached the question of Ukraine’s integration into the European Union on Thursday February 9, during his trip to Brussels (Belgium). Faced with the Ukrainian President, who wishes to begin negotiations this year with a view to future membership, European leaders have sent messages of hope.
A very long membership procedure
Ukraine did not wait for the extraordinary European summit on Thursday. As early as February 28, 2022, just 96 hours after the start of the Russian aggression, the country announced that it was aiming for membership by 2024. On June 24, 2022, the 27 members granted Ukraine candidate status for enter the EU. But the process is likely to be long for kyiv, which is facing several difficulties in gaining access to definitive membership.
