In his second five-year term, the President of the Republic wishes to reform the current pension system. But is it currently unbalanced?
For Emmanuel Macron, reforming the pension system is urgent. So how is our pension system currently doing? Contrary to what one might think, despite the increase in the number of retirees in the years to come, pension-related expenditure should not rise sharply. In the projections relative to GDP according to the different economic scenarios, after peak of Covid-19 in 2020, expenditure increases very slightly until 2030 then falls until 2070, and this, with the current system.
Emmanuel Macron talks about “unsustainable deficit system”. It is true that the contributions of the working people are not enough to pay the pensions, uA public contribution thus makes it possible to obtain the balance. For an indebted State, lowering its share of financing the pension system is an option. It is therefore a political choice more than an obligation in a system that would go adrift.
