Live from London (United Kingdom), journalist Matthieu Boisseau returned to Boris Johnson’s small victory on Monday June 6. Subject to a vote of no confidence, the Prime Minister saved his post.
While he was subject to a vote of no confidence, due to the “partygate” scandal in the midst of a health crisis, Boris Johnson saved his post as British Prime Minister. “Boris Johnson welcomes ‘convincing’ result, which allows him to move on”explains Matthieu Boisseau, correspondent in London (United Kingdom), Monday, June 6. “Even if he saves his job, it’s clearly not a victory for him”continues the journalist.
Boris Johnson won 211 votes from the Tories for his retention, against 148 votes calling for his departure. “This means that even within his camp, 41% of deputies are against him”, notes Matthieu Boisseau. Two elements nevertheless allow him to envisage the future with a minimum of serenity. “First, there is no designated successor in the Conservative ranks. And this score now protects him from a new vote of no confidence in a year”concludes the journalist.
